Is your local stream being robbed by a watery bandit?  Help us catch this rainy theif by attending a soil quality restoration field day.  Here is your chance to learn all about soil quality restoration and how it can improve the health of your lawn, trapping that bandit in the bars of your healthy soil and yielding lush green, vibrant growth for years to come.  On Saturday, November 1st from 9:00-11:00AM the Johnson SWCD will be sponsoring a demonstration on the property of Sondra Smith and David Leshtz at 1411 Sheridan Ave in Iowa City

Forever Green Landscaping will be on hand for technical advice.  They will be deomonstrating a combination of deep tine aeration and compost spreading, known as soil quality restoration, in order to increase the organic matter in the soil.  This will increase the soils capacity to hold moisture which is a step toward alleviating flash flooding, water pollution and bank erosion.

There will also be a rain barrel raffle, educational materials about other exciting conservation practices, and a sign up for free soil testing (Limited to the first 5 people).  This event is funded by a grant from ACT.  For More information please contact Laura at Johnson SWCD  319-337-2322x3.
