SOIL QUALITY RESTORATION DEMONSTRATIONS, IN JOHNSON COUNTY, APRIL 26TH & MAY 3RD
The City of Solon and the City of North Liberty are joining with the Johnson County Soil and Water Conservation District to organize a soil quality restoration (SQR) demonstration for each community. The SQR demonstration in Solon will be from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm Sunday, April 26th at the Timber Dome Lodge at the Solon Recreation and Nature Area at 700 W Sovers Street. The SQR demonstration in North Liberty will be from 1 pm to 3 pm on Sunday, May 3rd and will be held at Mike and Kelly Joseph’s property at 1485 Red Oak Drive in North Liberty.
Solon and North Liberty are both located in one of the fast growing areas in the state. As buildings and houses are built, valuable topsoil is removed and the remaining subsoil is compacted by heavy equipment and construction activity. Compacted soils do not allow stormwater to infiltrate, leaving the water untreated as it carries pollutants into nearby streams, rivers, lakes, and wetlands. SQR combines deep tine aeration and spreading nutrient rich compost on your lawn, increasing your yards organic matter content and overall ability to absorb rain water. This practice is a quick, easy, and cost effective way to improve the overall health of your yard, transforming your dry, stressed lawns to lush and green! Join us for either of the two demonstrations to learn more about the benefits of SQR and talk with JCSWCD staff, the City of Solon, the City of North Liberty and Forevergreen landscaping.
This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided and an RSVP is requested.
