Rocking' Rocks and Fossils with TAKO

Like rocks?  Like fossils?  If so this is the TAKO event for you.  TAKO (Take A Kid Outdoors) has teamed up with River Products to have our 3rd Rockin Rocks and Fossil Event. Don’t miss this opportunity to get a tour of a sand and gravel pit! Adults gather your kids, come collect some rocks and fossils with us. Experts will help with identification, so if you have some rocks, minerals or fossils you would like identified, feel free to bring them to the event.

TAKO will be hosting the event Saturday, August 6 at the Riverside Sand Plant adjacent to Cline Cemetery.To get there, take Oak Crest Hill Road to Harry’s Road SE turn East onto Harry’s Road (only way you can turn) at bottom of hill turn left into Riverside Sand Plant. 

Lunch will be served at 11:30 AM. Please help us reduce waste by bringing a water bottle, plates, silverware and other lunch items. This event is FREE and OPEN to the public. Advance registration is requested, but not required. Be prepared walk on an uneven surface and explore the quarry. There will be lots of SAND to play in and we may add some water. Participants must wear closed toe shoes (i.e. boots or tennis shoes) – NO Sandals or flip-flops are allowed in the quarry.

Participants should dress to get wet possibly muddy. Dress in layers and be prepared for a range of weather conditions. Bring a hat, work gloves, sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellent, drinking water, and any other items you may need to be comfortable in the outdoors. Participants are encouraged to bring a digital camera and/or binoculars.
